Where is my Merry Christmas :(

December 25th, 2008,

Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Here I am on Christmas day, a holiday I have been looking forward to for quite some time. Hours of listening to Christmas songs, watching The Grinch last night (annual tradition), decorating my room for Christmas, writing 150 cards and sending them out to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and also sending out a homemade e card (http://talitha88.hyves.nl/album/3267962/Iedereen/ryxgRmEY/fotos/438031907/0/0AwH/) for everyone in both my email contact lists and my Hyves contact list, a holiday that is been called my time of the year. And here I am, sick in bed…watching "All you need is love", a Dutch program, where loved ones are being reunited to spent the holiday season together. Something I was planning on doing as well, but still I am here by myself in bed, resting. My mom is down stairs asking me time and time again if I want to eat anything, but I am still not hungry. I haven't been feeling well since last Sunday, but as my MSN name says: Unstoppable and ready for 2009, I kept on going and going and working 9 hours a day for the last three days. But now, I think I finally hit my breaking point. I went out last night, figuring I would be okay if I just kept on drinking cola and water, but after an hour and a half, I called it a night and went home.

I just switch on my Christmas lights and am receiving all kinds of textmessages of people asking to celebrate Christmas with them and I have to say, no, I can't and sorry, I'm sick! And if it would just be a cold or something, no problem, but it's probably the flu (buikgriep) and that for someone who never gets sick…it's a cruel world!!!

A holiday that I value so much and would do anything for, my holiday, my favorite holiday and I can't celebrate it! So all that is left for me to do, is watching everyone having a Merry Christmas….so ho ho ho, Merry Christmas to all…(sounds a "little" bit bitter, but guess what, this is not how I wanted to spent my favorite holiday this year)!

With all my love and sincerely my best wishes to you all for a Merry Christmas,

Talitha!

What happened to the stars?

Even though I just missed these seasons (fall, winter) once in Holland, I still have to get used to it. It's remarkable how dark it gets over here at 5pm. Looking up at a pitch black sky and not seeing a single star. The stars that reminded me of my walks in Florida, the stars that connects us all.

In the last few weeks I've been working almost non-stop on school projects. Most of it at school and sometimes it continued at home. So socializing came at night, whenever I could find time.

It's bizarre for some, but our school has two bars on its property (one inside my building and one right outside of it), where friends/students/colleagues can get together for a cup of coffee, a grilled cheesed sandwich (tosti) or a beer (beers are served after 3pm). So after a hard week of work, I too went to the bar, called "Room 99" as in classroom, in Dutch "Lokaal 99". (I just went out the night before, slept for two hours and was at school by 9am, so to drink again was the furthest thing I could think of when I walked in). I met up with some friends, who I owed a beer. And since I was thirsty, very thirsty and they started to buy me beer too, I gave in and drank the beers that were offered to me. We left "Lokaal 99" and went to the center of the city, where we went to a casino, no worries I didn't gamble and after we played some pool. I went home, ate dinner and left for a birthday party that lasted till 1230am. Just to get up at 8 the next morning to work, work, work, and of course I had another birthday party that night and went out afterwards. Just to give you an idea of the crazy life (style) I created and am living.

I did other things too, went out to dinner, crawled out of bed at night on Halloween (which is no big idea over here yet), took a cab and went out, because a friend changed her mind and decided at 1am that she was going out after all, after I put my PJs on…but desperate for a party as I am, I went. (This was the night that I slept for 2 hours). I also had a drink or two with a new friend :), whose family used to be very close to my family, back in "the olden days", it's a small world. It was fun.

What else….I added a second earring in both ears, right next to/above the first one. I had more birthday parties and crazy days and nights I will spare you. I made more new friends (including a bartender and a young cabdriver), as I do every week. I visited my sisters, got a new phone (€25,-), since mine broke. And made plans to go skiing (indoors, in Germany), first time, that'll be fun…

And three people told me that I looked good in the past week, if I changed anything. I couldn't think of anything, looked the same as always…these were people that hadn't seen me for 2-3 weeks though. I understand that not getting your weekly dose of Talitha brings you down :), so when you finally do get to see me again, it's like the sun starts shining again!!

Speaking of my happy, cheerful presence, I too have my moments of stormy weathers. And they came in hard last night when I was out. Receiving a "Hi, how are you" text message from my aunt (Simone, who lives in America) reminded me that I live so far away and that I miss them. Thinking of how we used to talk and laugh. Moment of weakness, but I had plenty of friends that hugged me to death. Anyway, I'm putting my feelings on the table here. Wish I could have it all in the same place, all my friends, my life, my family, which will not happen, so I am dealing with that by flying over whenever I can ($$$). Life wouldn't be interesting without the challenges and obstacles to keep you focused and on the right track.

So that's that for this week, nothing much, just your small dose of Talitha! Enjoy and don't forget the side effects: a smile on your face, a happy feeling, wanting to hug, wanting to dance and positive thinking!

A big HUG for all,

Talitha!

Wonders of today

Hi there!

Walking down the street and seeing cars, buses, bicycles coming by, I started to think about it, The wonders of today. Just think about that first caveman, discovering wheels and here we are now, cars, buses, bicycles, cable cars, trains, subways and even airplanes! Isn't it amazing!!! Especially because an airplane can take me all the way to my family in America in half a day!! Just something that crossed my mind.

Anyway, my big trip was booked, 6-21oct. (it was my own birthday present from me to me, I actually waited till it was 0.00 25 sept. to book it). Of course I also had a party planned on October 4th, also my moms birthday. After working...and after a big fiasco at work...5 minutes before I was closing, the cart (the flowers stood on) fell apart and water went everywhere...OOPS! Thank god for the colleagues that just happened to stop by and helped me clean it. I could finally go home, get dressed for the party and return back to a friend, Debbie. Just a "little" drink before we went and time to go it was! The party was called PANN (no idea what it stands for) and it was a "straight friendly" gay party (or something like that). I had fun! Actually had a dance off/battle with a gay guy, the laughs we had! Anyway, very succesfull and also met some new friends! A friend, Merijn stopped by in front of the club to say "goodbye" and wish me a good trip, I went outside and it was SOOO cold! Anyway, back inside, enjoying the last songs (including Proud Mary!) and off to bed I went at 5am.

After waking up at 11.00am, I started packing and bought the last items I needed. I wouldn't be me if I wouldn't go to Soultrain (amazing party with lots of oldies) that Sunday night. My plan was to drop off my suitcases at my sisters house, Samantha, who lives near to the station, go out to Soultrain, return to my sisters house, grab my suitcases, change shoes and go to the airport!

So off I went to drop off my suitcases, went to Soultrain with the usual party people (this time including Viresh/Wise, the guy that asked me to go with them....and I can not say no to soultrain). It was awesome, the fun we had!! I really enjoyed it, they all thought it was amazing and were impressed that I came and would go straight to the airport after. When they all got tired...the sissies, I had an hour to spare before I had to catch my train to the airport...so just changed clothes and sat on the couch for a little bit (ohyeah..and my phone crashed...couldn't do a thing)...took the train and actually ran into someone I knew, what are the odds! So after a little chit chat, he got off and I turned my MP3 on again.

Arriving at Schiphol, everything went smoothly! Except for the fact that I couldn't call anyone with my cell, so I went to a phonebooth to call my brother to report to Shari that I didn't have a cellphone, but would call from the airport when I arrived.

Of course I couldn't resist the movies they were playing in the airplane, so I stayed up to watch (The great debate, Bucket list and ???)....I had to transfer in Philadelphia, which was easier that I thought, everybody said that it was such a huge airport that 2 hours was just enough to transfer...I had a little more than an hour to spare, so I guess I'm fast! Arriving in Fort Lauderdale, I called Shari...but some things went wrong with her finding the way, taking the wrong exit and not knowing where I was, because she couldn't call me, that it took her an hour and a half...in which I almost dropped to the floor...since I was awake for almost 48 hours!

We talked in the car and she dropped me off at Simone's at 9pm, who still thought I wasn't coming till wednesday. I put my suitcases next to the garage, checked if the alarm was on by looking through the kitchen window (it was on and it started raining), put my (black) hood on, ran back to the garage to get my suitcases and walked to the front door. Ken was standing in the door opening with max standing half behind him, Simone stood a couple of feet behind them with a shocked face and the phone in her hand...SHE THOUGHT I WAS A BURGLAR! Mission accomplished to surprise them :)!!!!!

The next day I also surprised amy, who was sooo happy (also throughout the time I was there). It was great being there again!! Seeing the neighbourhood, the people, the malls, the everything, it felt like I never left!

The two weeks that followed were full of fun! I hung out at the carwash a lot, got reunited with the two (uncles & aunts) SUV's CX90 that I drove in the six months I was there for my internship, went on my nightly walks with Roxy (their dog), put my niece to bed, went to my old loves Target and Walmart :)!! It was weird though...seeing all the halloween and christmas stuff laying around but knowing that I wouldn't be there for it...

But there was more that was different than before, no more working, freedom and a friend, Shari (the girl that took over my internship). So day 2 I surprised Patrice, the owner of the company I worked at. She was also very excited and happy to see me! And then Paul walked in and he too was happy to see me, but couldn't believe I was there....It's been 8 months, so that's understandable. Thanks Shari, for not telling anyone :)!

I bought a new phone, just to use in America, 10 dollars, that country is unbelievable! Anyway, I did a lot of fun stuff with Shari! We went to West Palm Beach, also with her friend Jenna, ate there and went to clematis by night (awesome to be there again). Live band, a little market and fire fighters selling their calender, hot hot hot!!!!! So we went on a picture, bought the calender and of course they all had to sign it! Things like: Thanks for holding my hose, I love your hazel eyes (ahhh) and call 911 to make a fireman come were written on it. The performance was awesome too, evil monkeys they were called if I recall it correctly.

Anyway, Shari and me also went to the movies twice during my visit, Body of Lies and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I introduced her to the Boys Market, Walmart and Costco! We also went to the Octoberfest, haha, looks like our Dutch holiday "Carnaval". It were mostly German people that lived in America, it was lots of fun. Lisa, a friend of mine asked me to come, so it was fun to see her again! Shari and me were acting crazyyyy, grabbing people left and right to dance with, whether they wanted or not!

We also went to Reggea night at Bostons (a restaurant at the beach) and boy did we had fun! We drank water all night, talked to some people...Shari sort of got molested hahaha, we ended up talking to, as Shari called it, her Plan B, Bill and Todd. Two cute guys that were looking our way a couple of times, but never said anything..after shari was freaking out when an old weird guy told her to ride on her and to go wild...she ran to the guys and said, you are my friends now, talk to me, haha...so a couple of hours later and after we thought them some Dutch words like "Neuken in de keuken", "Kut" and that sticking your middle finger up means the same in our language...we shared a lot of laughs, danced and left them to go home.

The last thing Shari and me did together was having a drink at Dada's, a fun restaurant down town. Her sister had just giving birth to a baby girl and Shari wasn't there for it..so she was a little bummed out...her flip flop also fell apart..so to make her night a little better, the manager gave her a free drink of choice. We talked and talked and talked!! I was leaving the next day...

Okay back in time, we also celebrated Kens birthday by having a little get together at their house. Family and friends stopped by and where also happy to see me! It felt like I never left! And the funny thing is that I was there for Kens birthday last year as well, just like I was there for Max's last year and also this year when I went to Paris for it.

On my last Saturday we walked the Breast cancer walk, 5Km, which was also fun and something I did a couple of times last year. After that we went Shoe shopping (Max, Amy, Auntie Anne and Simone), because Simone and me couldn't find them in the other mall...due to wrong sizes or 2 left shoes :S. So we found them! All stars with a double tongue, brown! And also a pair of Levi shoes, awesome!!! A friend just looked a it yesterday and said, wow real Levi's, you don't see them much in Holland, so I asked him how much they were in Holland, he said 70 a 80 Euros! Mine were 30 dollars (which is about 22 euros)!! Anyway love them!

I also had lunch with a couple of friends, Kathy, Illona and Nerea, Simone joined us later. After that I went to Illona's house to hang out. I also went to Nerea's house earlier that week (twice by the way), it was really like last year..and like I never left, picking up my routine. I also went by Anne's house and surprised her. It was so great!

I also went in the pool ONCE, haha...and on my last day we went to the beach, Simone, Amy, Max and me! That was just great!!! It was a beautiful day! There is so much I can say about this, but in short, it made me very happy. After that we went to Costco to buy my sister, Shanna, an Ipod!

And I also stopped by at Patrices and Pauls house to say my goodbyes. Paul asked me if I was working part time in Holland and I said yesss, still at the flowershop....why? Do you need me, haha! Well, later he went, do you get to use your skills or just your creativity, which I replied with, JUST my creativity....he said yes I know you're very creative and good at it, but you are also very good in your skills, haha...well anyway it came down to the fact that he might need some help with the webpage, I told him to email me ;)!

And my last day began....Saying my goodbyes, stopped by at the office to have a "beschuit met muisjes", that Shari brought. And seeing her sitting there with a little cat on her lap...just like I used to sit there with little Scout (Pauls and patrices dog...who btw starts barking everytime he saw me...guess he's angry because I abandoned him)....they found the cat and wanted to take him to an animal shelter...anyway Simone ended up taking the cat in, because she wanted a cat.

Sigh....this story is way too long....but I did so much...and have so much to share..I am sure I missed a lot...but coming to the end of my trip...having to go to the playground to say goodbye to Amy....almost broke my heart, but I was fine, no tears that dropped.

Simone took me to the airport where we had a bite to eat. I continued to go through customs...and the trouble began....I needed to be screened some more is what I was told...a security officer took me through the security gate, where I had to go through and sit in a glass box to wait for another security officer to take me...FEMALE INSPECTOR FEMALE INSPECTOR NEEDED....oh DARN! So I had to stand on a mat, legs open, arms open, there she went...with a metal detector that went of on every piece of metal that my bra contained...after that she used her hands, I was cleared, thank god! The flight went pretty good, transfering went well. And I started my last part of the way back....with a broken chair that went back without me pushing the button...watching "Maid of honor" and seeing more stars than I had ever seen before!

I arrived in Holland, my mom picked me up :). Went home and went out an hour later, visited Debbie again, hung out, went to Michael (brother, who was staying in my sisters house since she was on vacation), ate there, went home in THE FREEEZING COLD, slept and was at school by 10am the next morning, no time for a jetlag. Showing off my new shoes and my starbuckscup! After that it was school, school, school...went to Debbie on wednesday again..and couldn't stop smiling when I walked over...I think that was because I finally had a real autumn and winter again...jackets, skarfs, hats, hot cups of tea, lovely! I was happy :)!

Yesterday it was school again, dinner with half my class and then out again. It was fun! I just sat there at the end, thinking I hope we are still doing this in 10 years

Sorry for this UBERLONG story.......

Hugsssss,
Talitha!

Florida...Sunshine States, Arnhem.....NOT!

Hiii darlings!

I was riding my bike a couple of weeks ago and I felt a cold breeze. I then realized that I haven't felt that for quite some time..seeing as I was in Florida during the last fall/winter period, also riding my bike there but with a t-shirt on. And I'm also thinking about the time that will come up, when I'm taking a shower during the winter and just know that once you turn it off, you'll be cold again! So...time for scarfs, jackets, sweaters, etc...So, what are you going to do about it? I asked myself --> solution? GO BACK TO FLORIDA haha, just for 2 weeks :) in October! Sure, I'll have to work hard on my studies the first week, but would I rather do that at home or at the pool...such a dilemma!

Anyway, I've been thinking about my time in the USA lately.
Mostly because the girl that is there now for her internship, Shari, has been posting her stories, making me think about my time, the differences and similarities. And even walking down the street, hearing the same songs coming out of my MP3 are taking me back to the times I heard the music over there, walking the dog, driving the car, cleaning my room. And also just by looking at the stars, remembering the time I walked with Roxy and thinking that the stars would always connect persons across the world, all seeing the same stars.

So time to go back! This is the only chance I have before febr. 2010!!! When my big 6 months tour through America is planned, accompanied by a good friend, Shayista!

But ofcourse, first things first! My graduation year! I am already realizing that it's harder than I thought...or wanted actually. Since I got back from my internship, everybody knows what a "party animal" I've become or life enjoyer actually sounds better (if that's a word..) :). Anyway, I used to have all the time in the world to go out, socialize and still go to school, work, etc. And it was even easier during the summer break with no school at all :)! But ofcourse school started again and I never slowed down on the socializing....so it's sometimes exhausting! But I keep on going, because I'm always in for a party :)!

It even got to the point that my mom was joking to me yesterday asking if I was taking any pills, haha...since I was working an entire day, then visited a friend, went home, changed clothes and was off to the cities nightlife again!! Aw well, I have to enjoy it while I'm still a TEEN, haha....I will turn 20 this Thursday! Yup, Talitha-day is coming up 09/25!

Plans this week: Thursday party night, Saturday as well :), Friday GO TO THE GYM (oh yeah..me and sylvie bought a gym pass..) Sunday "oma's" birthday...enough excersize this week I would say.
Oh and of course I have to find a graduation assignment....abroad....I'm thinking of New Zealand..big plans right..

Time for homework now, ciaowie :)!

Enjoying life!

Hola, Nihou, Hello, Hoi, Bonjour, Ciao, etc....

After months, I am finally posting another (real life) story! What can I say, I've done enough, too much perhaps, but most of all I enjoyed life! I won't go back in time and tell you week to week what you missed, the way I used to do that. A couple of weeks ago, I went through my archives and god, did I write a lot of bullsh*t.....well, it was all true, but it's funny to see what I wrote 2 years ago.

Anyway, it was awesome having my family from USA here again, it was like it was in the States and I enjoyed every second of it! That's why it was difficult to watch them leave again, but that feeling only lasted an hour.

Anyway, I went on holiday to Spain! And at fi
rst my intention was to have that Party holiday abroad, but after being so busy with work, friends, family, I just wanted to have a relaxing holiday. Since I've never had that, I've always been busy during my trips, fun busy, but still things that were planned. So in Spain, I went against my lifestyle and actually laid down in the sun at the beach, day after day....or at the pool. I found some inner peace, I guess. I did nothing, I didn't go partying, except for the Dutch night they had at the only bar/restaurant near the campsite. And of course I was in my element as always when there's a party. Owh and to throw in a little of that crazy Talitha, I did (just like I did in China), said Hola, te quiero, meaning "Hi" and "I love you", at least that's what we thougt.. I learned this monday, that it litteraly means: I want you. And now we know why the bread guy was so happy when he saw us...

By the way, I went with a good friend (Geraldine) to her parents and brother + girlfriend, who where already at the campsite for a week or so. We all went together to Barcalona for a day. And we took a big tour bus and of course sat on top. Well....I got a burn on my shoulder....long story...anyway, I've got some stuff to put on it, so hopefully it won't leave a scar. We saw all the hotspots and stopped at La Sagrada Familia and at the stadium of Barcalona (where we took a tour).

The campsite was awesome, very big. There was so much to do. The first couple of night we went to the open air theatre, that was fun. And we also played tennis, which was fun-ny! And we took some trips, went grocerie shopping, stuff like that. It was 30-35 degrees celcius each day and it didn't really cool down at night. But it didn't bother me that much, as I get used to temperatures quite easily :)! So it was a perfect holiday to finally offer Talitha a break!!

But of course, a couple of hours after arriving last Thursday night, I went out again, wo
rked on friday, went to Sonsbeek (there was a festival), worked on saturday, went out till late, got up early for a lunchdate, went to Geraldine, her parents were coming back...so I still didn't get a chance to sleep in or to relax. Result? I woke up on Monday with an ache between my eyes, when it's all clogged up a lot, you can get an infection in that spot. Well, it's not that bad. But, I do feel pressure every once in a while and my nose and throat are also part of my new illness. My eyes were also bothering me 2 days, couldn't keep them open to long, since they started hurting. I can never just have a normal illness, I also have a combo or a mix of things or something really bad....so I needed to rest...and use nose spray, etc....so hopefully I'll get better soon....have to work tomorrow, friday and saturday.

So that's my story, that's how I'm feeling right now.....I guess I can't always keep on going and going and going...but as all of you know, I probably will always keep on going and going and going...

I'll leave it at this!

Love, hugs and kisses!!

Hallelujah moments!

Hi!! Another city to add to my list: Nijmegen also called: Nimma city!! It was fun, another city that has the students night on Thursday, just like Arnhem. Met new people and had fun, what more could you want! And then last monday: Mission RUN FOREST RUN! I had to hand something over to my aunt, who arrived on Schiphol, only to transfer to another flight 50 minutes later! So there I was...took an earlier train...and her flight was delayed..15 minutes! I kept looking at the board, but it said arriving at 3....and I kept thinking is it 3 for sure..but that's what it said..so I kept waiting...and then I heard my name. Simone was behind me somewhere! She arrived at 1, schiphol messed up...Anyway, HUG! First time we saw each other after I left last February. So we walked to her gate, chatting on the way, quick quick quick! But we made it!

So 2 days later on Wednesday, my Paris adventure began! My flight left at 20.25, I arrived at 21.25 (I know...ridiculous...but it was cheaper than the train...) so after that I had to take 2 trains...one was delayed..but I ran into a couple from LA, so I wasn't bored :)! And there I was, walking out of the train station and OH MY GOD, it's the Eiffel Tower at night (See picture)!! I kept walking and there I was at the apartment, still able to see the Tower from up close!! I was buzzed in, there was uncle Ken!!! We went up to the 9th floor!

I had to go to the balcony with my eyes shut....and then open them again and again OH MY
GOD, it was sooo close (see picture by day)!!!!! Well, then Simone showed me where amy and max were sleeping and they left a spot open for me to lay...! So sweet! So there I went, first looking at those 2 little angels, that I missed (I realized that in Paris). Finally fell a sleep, woke up again and so did max, he saw me in a flash and hugged me, so sweet! And after that again! Then we both woke up and talked and while I came out of the bathroom, I heard Max say to Amy: Amy, wake up, guess who's here, Talitha's here! And I walked to the room slowly, seeing Amy with a smile that is indescribable!

They all had missed me too and Amy wanted to stay with me, walk with
me, sit with me, sleep with me, etc. most of the time, it was so sweet!! That Thursday was Max' birthday, we went to the Louvre, amazing! I was kind of tired...so from time to time it was like...how long until this tour is over, haha but I enjoyed it! Being part of their family again just went naturally. We also went to all the other tourists spots, it was awesome! The day after, we saw more of Paris, beautiful and full of history!

Last night...last morning...saying goodbye, but that went easy, since I knew I will see them again in a 10 days! We both went our own ways and I arrived in Arnhem Saturday night 7 o clock.

That Monday was my first exam, it was great to see the class again and chatting about everything! Owh and finally handing out the PICTURE DVDs of China, that I finished right before I went to Paris, another HALLELUJAH MOMENT!!!

Yesterday I watched the first soccer game, Holland played in for this EK (european cup). They won, again....they've won every game they played (3), even against the world champion, Italy (who they beat with 3-0)!
I will have my second and last exam for this year tomorrow, so time to study again!!

Simone, Ken, Max and Amy are arriving this Saturday in Arnhem!!! Absolutely fabulous!

Ow and my last HALLELUJAH moment!! The strike (buses) is over!! They will start driving again tomorrow!!!!
Okay, got to go now!!

Big hug, kisses!

Ready for the summer!

And here I am again...after saying sorry for waiting so long to post a new story last time...history seems to repeat itself.....Once again I am grabbing my diary/day to day planner to see if I did anything worth mentioning....

Okay, here it goes!

As you all know, I am enjoying life! Part of that is, of course, my Saturday nights.....and recently added again, the Thursday! And I am happy to announce that I finally had a chance to go to Soultrain again, which is on a Sunday! So after Thursday and Saturday, I also went on Sunday! I went to Soultrain, a themed party held in one of Arnhem's clubs: Manhattan, once before (a year ago) and it was the first time I went ballistic, danced like crazy!! In the play list are songs from the olden days, soul, disco, you name it. Aretha Franklin, James Brown and also other oldies! Totally my kind of music! I went with a (gay) friend and his posse. Half ...if it wasn't more of the people there were gay, totally awesome! I sang, I danced, I made friends!

A week later, on sunday again, The annual HARLEY DAVIDSON day was in Arnhem!! My mom's uncle, grandmother's brother, Johnny participates every year! Over 5000 Harley's are on display and of course the perfect chance for the bikers to share their passion! And it's always fun for me, since I get to see some of my Indonesian family, which is always lots of fun!

And then, just like that, I decided to go to Amsterdam with a friend (who is in my class). Amsterdam might be a tourist spot, a must see for foreigners. But also a shopping heaven for us Dutchies and then there is, of course the Red Light District. And as far as my memory goes, I can't remember ever visiting the RL district! So our plan was to go shopping, walk pass the district, grab a bite en return home...we went shopping alright...didn't buy a whole lot..but a well..Anyway, we didn't went by the district and set up a new appointment to visit the lovely ladies the next time! As a Dutchess, it has to be part of you education ;)! The friend I went with by the way is Laura, one of the persons I also went to Wageningen with.

And I went with her, her boyfriend Rik and brother Daan "out", Saturday night in EDE. First drop off my sleeping stuff, since I was spending the night as well. And off we went, first we visited a few friends and drank and off we went to the nightlife of Ede! It was fun! I even ran into someone I knew!! Anyway, where ever I am, the party is too!!!

Anyway! I finally met Shari, the girl that wants to go to my ex-internship job in the USA. She was very enthusiastic and went through the same kind of stuff I had to go through, so I knew how she felt! And how hard she had to try to get documents and to make things happen! But we talked, got to know each other, had a bite. And hopefully everything will be okay in time!

Uhm...what else....I booked 2 holidays! One is to Paris, June 11th! When I finally get to see my American family again, my aunt, uncle, nephew and niece! I can hardly wait!! And I am sooo excited!!! I will arrive at night around 23ish and will leave Saturday, June 14th at 15.45 by plane! The other holiday we booked last night, which is to Barcelona, Spain with a friend. Her parents will already be on the camp site and we will join them for 10 days, but of course we'll have our own time to explore Barcelona and the nightlife :)!

The last thing I'd like to tell you guys...is that I cut my hair, again...well of course I didn't do it myself :)! But it's short....hanging on my shoulders...so that's another 10 cm...around 4 inches...which means a total of 20 cm/8 inches that's off! I am ready for the summer I guess!

School is almost over for the year....I will be sad to say goodbye to this class, especially after sharing so much in China! So hopefully we will stay in touch and have an occasionally get-together party!

I will leave it at this! I am still working on the China pictures! *Sigh*! Haven't done anything for a while...so that's why it's still not done! I am getting closer to the end, thank god! Hopefully, I'll be done at the end of this week!

Oh and all the buses are on a strike! Which is a big deal in Holland, a lot of people depend on public transportation...luckily I have my bike to get around....but hopefully the strike will be over soon!!

Cheers,
Talitha!!!

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine!

Hii!!!

Shame on me, for waiting this long to publish another post again! But...in my defense, I've been quite busy!

Anyway, after the whole China experience, of which I came back just a little over 4 weeks ago...we had a few days off before school started once again. I can't tell you what I did day to day (lucky you), since it's a while back...

As I said before I have been busy, which doesn't mean there wasn't any time to have fun! Since I ALWAYS have time for fun :)!
I went to Amsterdam, with my brother, for Queens Night and Day (we had a week off of school, May break) to my sister and returned to Arnhem on April 30th (still Queens Day), a reason for me to continue partying and party I did till the sun came up. On May 5th, another holiday in Holland, Bevrijdingsdag, the day the war was over and we were "free". I went to Wageningen, where the biggest party seemed to be. And also the first time for me to be part of that. So there I went along with some classmates, getting to know their friends and family and I even had a big (positive) discussion with the dad of one of my friends that night about prices, currency, poverty, you name it! Wageningen was fun, definitely something to repeat!

The busy part nowadays is being caused by school, work, personal projects (that I have put on myself). One of those projects is to sort all the pictures that were taken in China by my class....meaning a little more than 9500 pictures!! And of course I need to do the job right...so I am renaming the pictures and organizing them in chronological order...which is hard to do, since 20 people took pictures of the same thing..and I couldn't organize it on date/time, because not every camera had the right date and time...anyway, big project! Another thing is that I am helping a girl that wants to take over my internship, the one I had in Florida. The girl is so enthusiastic, she reminds me of myself when I was all excited about the internship and America, so it's fun to talk to her and to help her! And of course there's school and work....all taking in more time than I would like :)...

On the bright side, the sun started shining!!! The weather is gorgeous! The other day, the sun was shining directly into my room onto my bed. Perfect for me to just lay on my bed and enjoy the sunshine :). It all reminds me of my time in Florida and that I sang a song to my niece:
You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are grey,
You'll never know dear,
How much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away!

Before I forget! I bought some high heels!!! They are fabulous and not that hard to walk on. Although...after the two times I wore them to school for an entire day, I bought (yes both times) flip flops :)! Both times I went to H&M and tried on some clothes...so I had to take the shoes off for a bit and then on again and...ouch..haha!

Oh and the fair is in Arnhem...it's loads smaller than the one in Florida...but still a fun fair! I made a movie for you guys...haha..I will post it on youtube.com one of these days!

I will leave it at this for now...I have another day in between the beautiful flowers waiting for me tomorrow...so time to go to bed!

I am wishing you an enjoyable week, month, year and always remember to look on the bright side of life...even though that's sometimes hard to do!

Big hug,
Talitha!

Discovering China

Discovering China

We all remembered the day we received an email: “We gladly accept you doing this minor”. And months later, here we are.

The 1st Day – The moment is here

After a 10 hour flight full of fun and of course time to sleep. And it still seems surreal to arrive in Shanghai.

Our first transportation was the Maglev, a train that went 430 km/h. To see all the poverty, construction, grey sky, duck taped scooters and experiencing the bumpy roads and chaotic traffic, Shanghai has a different side than the colorful, modern pictures they always show.

The hotel Jinjiang Inn, part of a chain, wasn’t bad. We had everything we needed, including hard, flat beds.
To get the most beautiful view over Shanghai, we went in the Oriental Pearl Tower. Afterwards, we paid a visit to Mc Donalds (Màidangláo), were we only paid 2 Euros for a whole menu! To walk it off, we went shopping. We soon noticed all the shops looked alike and that “street sellers” are everywhere. Sales people attack you the second you walk into their area. The same goes for the homeless people.

That night two female students discovered the “ground toilets”, nothing but a toilet seat in the floor (so squad down and let it all out). During this trip, all female students will most likely experience this piece of the Chinese culture. And finally, a Chinese meal! Familiar and unfamiliar food like nasi and cooked pig’s ear passed us.

2nd Day – Gan Bei

A smaller, less comfortable bus was waiting for us. And we were all paying attention to the driving skills of our new chauffeur, going from left to right and honking like crazy. We arrived at the Shanghai Port, were we awaited by one of the directors. He showed us the site and told us their plans for the future. Xiè xiè, thank you and there we went, on the road again. That night we went out to dinner with Rienk from Hunter Douglas. We tried some unusual food again, such as pig and pork stomachs, which doesn’t really taste like anything. Rienk visited every table and taught us a Chinese habit, to drink “bottoms up” or as they call it in China: Gan Bei! So that’s what we did that night…and again…and again. The best way to learn is to keep practicingJ!

That night we went out to do what Chinese love to do: Karaoke! Every room had its own karaoke set and everybody went “on stage” and showed their best. Well, after a couple of beers your best becomes a funny performance.

Since the party mood and alcohol was present in everybody, it was logical to explore the nightlife in Shanghai. We noticed that the nightclubs are much more spectacular in China and that a beer costs €5,-.

3rd Day – Chinese Venice

Starting the day with a traffic jam of at least an hour, we got out of the bus and checked out the environment too. And since we looked so different, we were being checked out as well. Our destination that day was Zhou Zhuang, a water city. Some sort of Traditional Chinese Venice. We saw so many different things and people. This was the perfect place to practice our bargain skills. Some were better than others, but we all left with a satisfied feeling and a bag full of souvenirs.

4th Day – Time to study

We spent today at SIFT (Shanghai Institute for Foreign Trade) SIFT contains a 7 university campus. It’s funny that all students have a bicycle, since they often have to travel from one building to another. The place is huge, it was like walking into a city! Peter Steemers (a fellow travelers and professor at HAN University) gave a guest lecture about Problem Definition and Strategies. We had to implement the knowledge to solve a case together with Chinese students. Groups were made and our project began. We had to get used to working with Chinese students, since they have a different way of working than us. The other professors joined us and group after group presented their problem and solution. After the last group, the professors deliberated who was best. And the winner is….group 5! Applause and cheers filled the room, well done, Hĕn Hao. To show their appreciation, the students of SIFT organized a little party for us in a room on campus, where fun was waiting for us. We played games like and we also learned the bunny hop dance. An overnight bus took us to Wenzhou. Imagine 30 beds, 2 layered in one bus and you can imagine the sizes and narrow aisles separating the beds. Around two am we arrived in Wenzhou, a small town known for its export and trade and beautiful nature. This was our new “home” for the next couple of days.

5th Day – Car chase

Our first stop today was the low voltage laboratory of KEMA (of KEMA keurmerk, also located in Arnhem, The Netherlands). We had a quick tour through the laboratory. KEMA’s objective for the future is to set up a high voltage laboratory in Shanghai.

For dinner we had Chinese and bottles of beers were popped left and right. We saw life fish swimming around, just waiting to be picked out and be served for dinner. It’s interesting to experience more and more of the Chinese culture every day. Afterwards we explored the nightlife of Wenzhou. We had an address and collected 4 cabs. A pursuit followed, since only one cab knew the directions. It was like being in a car chase in an old action movie. We ended up in Bund 18, mingled with other Chinese and foreigners and had lots of fun!

6th Day – The poor and the rich

Our first stop was a shipyard, which operates both domestically as internationally and contributes a great deal to the worlds shipping industry. The company builds 10 ships a year, made to transfer goods. The director feels that their comparative advantage lies in a lower amount of raw materials and lower costs. We continued by visiting a factory that belonged to the same company. The work that was being done was routine work. The rooms were big, grey and had a sad atmosphere. The day continued with our assignment: The poor & the rich in Wenzhou, which really displayed the huge gap. I can say for all of us that this left the biggest impression on us and left us thinking about our own lives. The families told us they accepted the situation and were fine with it. They moved to Wenzhou for the better employment. Just a couple of hundred meters further, the rich lived. It is weird that these groups live so close together, but have the total opposite life. The rich live in big apartments. Most of them told us that they too work hard and it is likely their kids will have the same life. They think the poor came for a better life, for a new life and that it’s hard to start from scratch, but it is possible.

7th Day – Finally a piece of Nature

Today we went on our way to Yandang Mountain. The surroundings were beautiful and it was so peaceful, although we changed that from time to time. We all enjoyed the beautiful mountains, waterfalls, every bit of nature. The sun was even shining that day and the sky was blue. It was totally different than the city life we see here on a daily base. We also went over a couple of bridges, where fears were put aside by some to get across. After all the hiking, it was time to reboot with some dinner. This time the food was 90% meat and 10% fish. The plates were pretty much all empty and refills were requested. Boy oh Boy, did we love that meal! That night most of the students and teachers were treated to a lovely massage, only paying 70 Yuan (about 7 Euros).

8th Day – Away from nature and off to the big city again

Off we went again, it was kind of weird. Beijing was the last city to visit and we started to realize that our adventure was almost over. We noticed from the start that Beijing was different. First up was sightseeing, where we saw the Olympic stadium. It’s amazing how much was being build and renovated in Beijing, all to make it picture perfect for the Olympics. Buildings popped up left and right and streets were almost spotless. The shopping afterwards was fun, known brands were everywhere and we also came across a supermarket that pretty much sold everything we missed, it was like walking into paradise! After all that shopping, we sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the Chinese culture with the whole group.

9th day – Mind stands over Body

Another beautiful day in China started, although there is a lot of smog in Beijing. Today’s first stop was the Dutch Embassy, where we learned about the Developing Corporation. The matchmaking program is about finding the right Chinese partner for a durable corporation for a Dutch company. To minimize problems in working with China, it is very important for a Dutch company to do its research, hire a legal person and to find a Chinese partner with a good relationship with the government. We were told that the west of china was developing rapidly and advised to learn Chinese. China is booming and is coming more and more to Europe.

After the informative morning, it was time for a cultural activity: climb the Great Wall! And so the challenge began! Some walked, some ran, some didn’t make it, some did J and luckily nobody fell! The view was beautiful, being able to see the path that lied behind and in front of us. And that feeling when you finally make it is indescribable. Once again we proved mind stands over body. To celebrate this great accomplishment we went out with the whole class, including the professors. We walked into a small bar and ended up on stage, doing the bunny hop dance we learned at the SIFT. We also did a polonaise and sang some Dutch songs and showed them a Dutch party (although it looked more like Carnaval).

10th Day – On our way home!

And so our last day beganL. Enjoying our last hours of smog, we went on our way to the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was once the home of emperors and their household. Nowadays it is open to public. Afterwards we went to Zhangguang 101, a company that produces hair regrowth products, now being sold in 65 countries. After a tour and presentation, we went to one of their clinics nearby. We continued with our last chance to spend our Yuan money during our last shopping spree. And then went out to our last dinner and our last pí jiŭ (beer). On the menu was Beijing’s famous Duck. So for one last time, we all sat around the table and enjoyed. Unfortunately one of our classmates was unable to attend our dinner. He flew over to Shanghai for a graduation assignment with China, which he successfully wheeled in! The professors gave their thanks and after, the students told their highlights of the trip. We could all agree that this trip was a success! We had our last Gan Bei, the best way to say goodbye to China!

And now here we are, on our way home, enjoying the last couple of hours of this great experience. And an experience it was, a new, interesting, awesome, not always pleasant experience. But most of all an experience we will always remember! We all learned a lot, not only about China, but also about ourselves and each other.

I would hereby like to thank everybody of MAS 2008 again for the awesome time we had in China! Xiè xiè, Thank you to MAS 2008: Arno, Jan, Peter S., Jelmer, Sylvie, Reggy, Imar, Mark, Jan Dirk, Rik, Laura, Ilse, Christel, Elsbeth, Johan, Anita, Peter, Harm, Robin, Dong Hao and Linhe!

I hope you got an idea what we and what China has to offer!

Isn't snow suppose to fall in December?

Hi all,

How is everyone?? I hope you are all doing fine, where ever you may be!

As I told a couple of people in America, Dutch weather is very unpredictable. It can be sunny on monday, rainy on tuesday, sunny again on wednesday and even snowy on thursday..

And I am happy to anounce that we had snow!!!! It's almost snowing for 4 days now...ofcourse not the good stuff, that stays for a day, but the kind that dissapears within the hour. But it's making me smile every time I see the white sparkles falling down from the sky! I just love snow and since I missed it last December and "God is good" or is it Mother Nature...anyway I've had my snow!

Over to more important things...I explored different places to go to a night out. I even went to a gaynight, it was so much fun! All the lesbians were standing over at the bar...doing absolutely nothing. The gays were dancing and a couple of them were dressed up and looked like females, hehe. I was with a couple of friends and me and another girl were dancing like crazy. It's perfect, no worries that you're being harassed or anything like that. The gays loved us and since we were both open and talked to everyone, soon all the gays were coming our way. When we were leaving, we apparantly caused a "traffic jam" in the hall way because we were talking to everyone that passed and we both formed our own groups. We were asked nicely to leave. So we took our new friends outside, exchanged emailaddresses and said our goodbyes.

I also went to sort of the country side of Holland, where there is more green and where the houses are bigger :)! There was a tent (see left picture, more pictures can be found on www.picturetrail.com/talithaaspen) and the easter party was in there. I never saw this many young kids getting drunk....it was funny though. In the "tent" there was a live band and the beer was flying through the air! One of my friends had the brilliant idea to walk to the front of the stage.....it's like you're in a rollercoaster with no seatbelts, we were being leaded from left to right, forwards, backwards, left again, backwards, right again.....got beer in my face, on my hair and clothes...we finally managed to get out! And we were missing someone...so a brave friend found his way through the crowd and pulled the poor girl out of the chaos! And then it didn't matter anymore, our group started with the beer throwing too. Thank god, beer is good for your hair (we even have Andrelon Beer-Shampoo in Holland).

As you can see, I kept my word of going out every thursday and saturday.
I've sort of formed a routine...
- I usually arrive later than agreed
- I almost never stay in one club
- Or with the same people
- I always make new friends
- I always dance my a** off, which compensates my drinking (calories)
- I am never able to drink just one glass
- I never drink till the end though
- The partying ends at 5.00 o'clock
- Which means it's time to continue talking outside for 15 min. or so
- My transportation is always waiting for me
- It has 2 wheels and is called a bike
- I sometimes walk home (last time, it was raining the last 10 min. of my morning exercises, resulting into wet socks)
- I never have a hangover :)

- I will continue the next day with my daily life
- Usually after a (at least) 6 hour trip to dreamland...

I finally saw my grandmother after my big USA adventure...! Shame on me, that I waited this long! But it was fun, we joked, we laughed, made pictures :)!

I think that's it....I'm going to China this Saturday and I am soooo excited!! Last Thursday I went out to dinner, to a Chinese restaurant with my class + teachers (see picture, more pictures can be found on www.picturetrail.com/talithachina) to get a taste of the Chinese Kitchen and to get to know one another even better! It was so much fun! The food was good too, most of it anyway! Spending more time with the class has made me realize even more that it's going to be so much fun with this group! We might be sick of eachother after being stuck with eachother for 12 whole days and after the flight of 12-14 hours!!! But I'm still excited and ready to go (well...almost...haven't packed my bags yet :)....).
I will leave it at this and will try to send an update & some pictures while I'm in China!

It feels good to be a student again!

Hello, Nihou, Hoi!!!

How is everybody doing?? I am doing absolutely fantastic! I am living the life and spending money like crazy!

I still am busy with all kind of get togethers! I went to a concert in Amsterdam (Nada Surf, not very familiar...). But it was awesome!

And I finally had my "nieuwjaarsreceptie"/New years party of my job here, they where waiting for me :D! Anyway, that was last thursday and at first I was talking to everybody and telling them about my experience....and then me and another collegue got the party started! But then again, what do you expect when the booze is free, hehe! God, I sound like an alcoholic!

Anyway, I had my fair share and we started dancing, almost everybody got a little drunk, even my boss, his wife, some managers, it was funny! The one sober person that was present has the pictures and videomaterial to prove it! It was so much fun though! And everybody was so happy to see me again! Anyway when it was over, we went outside and we saw two guys, one was from romenia, spoke english, anyway I asked him to teach me something in his language and I yelled it when they walked away...Stai commiente (take it easy, relax, it's a new goal to learn it in every language).

After that (around 1 am) I went out with some friends and partied till 4ish, went to sleep around 4.15 and was wide awake at 7.15 the next morning! My voice was half gone, but nothing else bothered me! On Friday I went to dinner at my aunts house and on saturday I had to get up early again to work!

And since only my voice bothered me, I went out again on Saturday from 12-4ish and went home on my bike! It was fun, went out with a bunch of girls and we went barhopping, but to the bars I never go...it's the kind of bars that are fun after a few beers...anyway, we landed in a bar called Bloopers and there he was, the romenian guy! I couldn't remember where I knew him from and then it hit me and I said, Stai commienteeee! So we danced and danced and we went to another bar again and on sunday my voice was still half gone...

On monday I had a presentation for my Chinese lesson, which went great. The teacher loved it! She said that it was good that we made a boring subject so interesting :D!!! It's awesome that I'm learning the basics of the Chinese language!

On tuesday I went out to dinner with a good friend and her boyfriend, we went to a greek diner! And I scored us a free Oesso (a greek drink). Oh and I learned how to fold napkins and how to say "take it ease" in greek, Siga Siga. The owner was really funny. And then I looked outside and there it was, SNOW! I could hardly believe it! Granted, it only lasted a few minutes and it was the kind of wet snow that you only see falling down, but that doesn´t stay laying on the street...unfortunately, but it was snow! It was really snowing for a sec!
It was awesome to see!!!
As you could just read, I am still busy and I thought it would get calmer in March...but that might not happen...since I am going to China at the end of March and there are still a lot of people that want to get together before I go!
Tomorrow is another schoolday and Friday I'm going to my sister in Amsterdam for her Birthday, Saturday is another workday and Thursday and Saturday are potential partynights...
By the way, just so you know, I wasn`t like this before I went to the usa! Yes, I loved a good party and a good beer, but since I had sort of an `adult` life in the US, I enjoy being back and being able to go out and party all night long and living a student life!
Take It Easy, Stai Comiente, Rustig, Tranquilo, Siga Siga,

China, here I come!

Hello!!!

Starting now, I am going to start typing my upcoming blogs in English, so everyone can read it. Besides, it'll be a good exercise to practice and improve my English writing.

It's been two weeks since I returned from America and I still enjoy being here. I feel bad sometimes that I don't miss America or my family, but I guess it's because I started a new adventure here in Holland. Plus the fact that, since the day I got back, I have been swamped with "social events" throughout February and of course school. I have had dinners, get togethers (for drinks) and parties. Of course I also went out clubbing :), since I am allowed to do so again. But let's not discuss that in details.....

I enjoy being around students again and making new friends. I started this year with a new class, except for the one guy I knew from last year. Of course we weren't in the same project group...I was placed in a group with 3 people I didn't know, but after our first meeting we had already shared so much memories and laughs it seemed like we knew each other longer.

It seems months ago that I returned from America, but every time I tell somebody about my experience I start to "glow" (or at least that's what I'm being told) and I just can't stop smiling. I really enjoyed it, even though it sometimes feels like it never happened.I connect things that I see or hear here with stuff that happened in America. Like Mike once showed me he had Smurfs (Smurfen in Dutch) and a big supermarket here has a commercial/salespromotion using those Smurfs again. Or like Paul joking about the drugsboat and me seeing the drugsboat pretty much every day. Or everything I learned during my internship and the fun moments with Patrice. Or every time I hear a song that I downloaded in the US and thinking back when I was there, driving, staying up late, doing fun stuff with Simone, with the family. The times we spent in Disney or just in the back yard. Just every event or fun moment I had is coming back somehow...and I have always been good at visualising stuff, so I just start seeing those fun moments every day, over and over again.

It's funny that I already have been told 4 or 5 times that I have an American accent :) and I love it when people tell me that, hehe :). Anyway, the only thing I really had to get used to was the weather....it's cold here compared (I even witnessed the coldest night this year...brrr) to Florida, but everybody here tells me that it's not that cold anymore...so I just wear an extra sweater, use an extra blanket and drink lots of hot tea! Unfortunately I did get a heavy cold yesterday. As Paul once told me, I drank lots of water, but I wished I had my Vitamin C or Emercen-C here too, hehe. Anyway, I felt better today!

What else...my internship evaluation was last week and it was graded with a 75. The highest anybody ever gets is pretty much an 80. My first report wasn´t detailed enough and my tutor and me had a little miscommunication at the end, so I got a 75, which was fine by me :)! My tutor also told me that the second/final report was written well and had a a nice flow, so it was easy to read. She explained me I could take some classes in creative writing, which I didn't know I could do. Apparantly, you are able to attend extra classes with other groups in your spare time. So I want to know what else my college offers in the Communication field or Digital Media.

I will also start a new job at my college starting next week. It's basically working on marketresearch projects and my previous projecttutor recommended me, so I'm excited to start with that. I am keeping my job at the florist for the saturdays.

I started the minor "Doing business with China" 2 weeks ago and I love it! I had Chinese today and we learned the basics, we also need a language partner to practice this. Everybody had to find Chinese people at school, which we have enough of at my college. Anyway I found one that attends one of my classes, she is in her first year. And today another Chinese girl talked to me and we exchanged emailaddresses and phonenumbers. It's always helpful and it's another chance for me to get to know the Chinese culture.

And yes I am going to China on March 29th for 10 days, I'll be back on April 9th. I am so excited! It's related to our project, but of course we will have time for cultural events (like the great chinese wall and karaoke). Oh life is good :)!

Well this is my first English Blog, hope you enjoyed it!For my new american FRIENDS (hehe), if you want to leave a comment, simply click on: Leave a comment and check the box for "anonymous", fill in the security code and you can leave a comment. Of course you can always email me or just read it and do nothing :)!

I hope you will keep me posted with your live too!

Cheers,
Talitha!!

Back in Holland

Hallo!!

Ik was superwakker en no sign of the jetlag!

Kus, Knuffel, Cheers,
Talitha!
