Fukuoka & surroundings - part II

In this post; Beachtime at Itoshima & Shinkansen to Kumamoto

Let's go to the beaaaaach!!!

Sunny day again today so beach time!! Destination; Itoshima! A bit of a journey, subway and bus but worth it!!!

At the end of the beach

Dead pufferfish, saw 3 of them. Almost stepped on the first one, scared the sh*t out of me.

Beach food

Peace 🧘🏽‍♀️

Collecting shells in an empty bottle I was happy I kept with me today

I knoe West Palm Beach in Florida, this must be East Palm Beach 🤭

Selfie fun

Windy hair collection

Greetings from Japan, beautiful beach (water was freezing btw)

What this beach is known for; Sakurai Shrine Futamigaura Torri (there was a huge line in front of it with people wanted to take a selfie from the front, I think this is good enough :-))

From over the sea to under the sea, another show at Canal City!

New hotel, fire alarm and Kumamoto!

Left my bag at the next hotel that I had booked for one night. It was full after that. Prices went nuts this weekend so I had little options, also why I had to leave my last hotel. Not booking in advance sometimes have this as a downfall. But I didn't mind. After walking around the city again, looking for Sakura, Cherry Blossom anda visit to TeamLab Forest, I checked in and it was an amazing room! Two double beds so all supplies came in 4 including a full mini bar, all free of charge! I'm still enjoying these drinks as I obviously emptied it out and took it with me when I checked out the next day ;-)!

Free mini bar, 14drinks haha

And also, free snacks at the lobby

A 100m long and 40m high slide, couldn't get on because he saw I had a few bracelets (from traveling) that I couldn't take off

TeamLab Forest, super fun!!!

Cherry blossom at Nishi Park

TeamLab Forest; taking a museum to the next level!

Halved rubberballs you have to cross, cracked me up!

Kumamoto

Woke up a bit before 8am, and decided to try and go back to sleep, seconds after that the alarm went off and besides English, they also announced in Enlish that there was a fire on floor 6, please evacuate. I was on the 14th, top floor.  I looked outside, so did others  People didn't seem to be in a rush though and there was no smoke. But I did get dressed and grabbed my backpack. And people eventually went towards the emergency exit. They were standing in front of the emergency exit door, which seemed shut so I walked towards the door and luckily it also said in English, break cover to open door in an emergeny and so I did. And then people followed. Once down on the 2nd floor, lobby, we were soon told that it was not caused by fire and we could go back to our rooms.

After a few hours, I checked out and went to the next hotel to leave my bag until check in. It was the same hotel as the first night with my friends, different room (size) but still easy does it. So booked it for 3 nights. Went to the station, because I had decided to go to Kumamoto, a city not too far from here (90km). And the fastest way to get there is the Shinkansen aka bullet train (over 300km/hr). Went in and bought my ticket and wanted to change one of the bigger ¥100.000 bill, but the price was ¥9.400. Whaaaaat! That's almost €54, for a return but still  it's only about 35min!! It's about what I spend on food, public transport, etc. in the last week haha. But then again, this is the BULLET train and Kumamoto, here I come!

It was a quick ride and after that I had to take a tram, when I got off it started raining a bit. But luckily it was another short and mild shower. My first stop was a Japanese garden, beautiful again. This one had hills and everything, very zen! After that I looked for postcards, they've been very hard to find in Fukuoka. A lot of them had this bear on them, Kumamon, it was everywhere. Turns out it's the mascotte for this region. I wasn't too sure about the castle visit, but went anyways. It was again so many steps up haha, I counted it on my way back and it was about 300, so 300 up as well! It's all good fun for the legs 😁. Took the train back and checked in the hotel, no free minibar, but I brought the last one with me haha. But they did have free mini donuts & free local ice cream!

Shinkansen/Bullet train arriving!

Didn't want to go and see another castle, have seen a lot during my previous visits but after paying over €50 to get here, I'm all in!!

Suizenji Jojuen Garden, beautiful zen garden in the middle of the city.

Lobby of the hotel after the fire alarm went off

Checking out!

Kumamoto castle before renovations

After renovations

On my way up, up up up the hill and a couple hundred steps
