Part V Caladesi Island & Sunken Garden

Please add your name in the comment itself if you leave one, I see everything under 'unknown'. Thanks!

Today's program? Island visit!!! I'm glad I sorted out some stuff before getting here since so it only took little effort once I had kind of an idea of where to go to sort out the rest. Drove about 15 minutes to Honeymoon island to get the ferry to Caladesi island where I wanted to walk the nature trail. They told us about hurricanes and fire damages but I figured I'll go for it anyway. And I was the only idiot going. First sign I saw (and they also told us about it on the ferry) was Caution rattlesnakes. F*** me. Haha it would soon turn out that my worst enemy would be mosquitos though. And whatever else bit me on my head and also next to my elbow that made a pretty big bump appear haha. Going over my head with my hand felt like I had hit a branch or something which I was sure I did not or did I? Mosquitos was new as well, they usually don't bother me but since I was the only idiot walking down here in probably a long time and so they must have seen a buffet walking and all thought: ATTACK!! Haha also my flipflops gave me a blister. These cheap, a bit over sized flipsflops that give me a blister each time. Got them in Australia last year for a few bucks as an temporary solution. That's it. I need new ones!!! The rest of the walk was so so, I did see a beatiful white great egret in between some palmtrees. It looked like an angel and I wondered why it was there instead of near the water. Finished the walk and went after the beach, where I was fascinated by these birds that kept diving into the water. Sometimes they caught a little fish but mostly nothing. Read my book for a bit and took the ferry back.

Don't think this was the paradise papa had in mind :-(.
Hurricane and fire damage.

Fascinating birds

Went back just in time. Started raining on the way back in the ferry or as I heard some one else say; here comes the sprinkles. And that was all it was, couple of drops really. But one of the ferry guys said it would rain at 530pm, a big red line was crossing the area on the map. It looked fine when I got back, so went to the pool for a quick dip and read a few more pages of my book. Until the skies turned dark gray and I packed up and went back to the room. It started raining when I was just back in, short but heavy rain.

Felt like having pizza and there was one pretty close. Was seated at the bar again with 3 screens in front of me and 3 on the other side. People kept clapping, must be a local team playing tonight haha. And yup, just looked up at which team was playing while typing this and saw a G logo which I know is Florida Gators. Goooo Gators!! But where's my pizza!!!!!! Haha and there it was. Delicious and took a third with me for the next day as I was full. Nom nom! Went to Walmart and Target after for my after dinner walk and bought bug repellent just in case I go on another walk haha. Back to the hotel for another great night, best sleep I've had all week. Quiet and dark room! And just after midnight I booked my hotel for the next day. Hopefully it's another good sleep! Fingers crossed!

Had another good night sleep, packed my stuff, had breakfast (included) and off I went! First stop: Sunken Gardens, a good 40 minutes away but on the way to my next destination. There was a whole history behind these gardens, but I'll let you Google it. It was a nice, peaceful garden and the trees reached the skies!! Great morning walk!

Cup to go from the free breakfast at the hotel hihi
(baked potatoes, snack for the road)

Ready to go!

Love this!

Wounded Tucan
